“I like to dig deep into fundamental concepts, understand and apply them to solve real-world problems and actuarial modeling allows me to do all that.

How did you begin your journey into actuarial science?
In the last year of my pre-university program in Applied Sciences, I began thinking about what I should major in. I’ve always been good at math, but at the time I was also interested in Mechanical Physics. When I took a career assessment, Mechanical Engineering and Actuarial Science were the top two choices. I was very intrigued by the complexity of Actuarial Science because it combines statistics and economics to solve business problems. So I decided to challenge myself and pursue it.

What led you to Actuarial modeling?
I like to dig deep into fundamental concepts, understand and apply them to solve real-world problems and actuarial modeling allows me to do all that. So with modeling, I could incorporate theoretical concepts and judgment with advanced software to build quality and efficient processes.

What’s your background in AXIS?
I started working with AXIS when I was an intern at an insurance company. Since then, I’ve always worked with AXIS in several departments, including Pricing, Valuation, and Inforce Management.

Why did you join Valani Global?
I discovered Valani Global about three years ago when they partnered on a project with my previous employer. I was very impressed with their expertise and knowledge in many actuarial topics, especially AXIS modeling. After that, I closely followed Valani’s growth and watched them quickly become a very influential consulting firm in the insurance industry. When I saw they were hiring, I knew I wanted to be a part of this amazing team.

Why should clients hire Valani Global?
Valani Global is very quality-driven. We take pride in our results. We are a team of experts who have varied skillsets in many different areas. We always put our client’s needs first. We don’t only honor our commitment, but also go beyond that to come up with the best solutions for our client’s problems.

What skillset do you bring to the Valani team?
I think my diverse experience in model building for different global markets would be one of my most valuable assets to the team. I’ve built models from scratch for many products with nontraditional features. I can quickly understand, improve or implement new and old models. I’ve led various AXIS conversion projects and AXIS model enhancement projects for U.S., Canada, and European markets. Having worked at an insurance company in Germany for two years has given me exposure to different cultures and work styles.

How are you involved in the actuarial community?
I volunteer as a mentor at Concordia University Actuarial Science Program to help students understand more about the actuarial working environment. I also plan to be involved in actuarial exam writing and grading in the near future. 🟦
