In my previous roles at a global reinsurer, I have driven a workstream for transition to IFRS17 and led valuation and reporting for business written across European markets.

How did you begin your journey into actuarial science?
I enjoyed mathematics and problem-solving while at school. My uncle, who works as an insurance advisor, introduced me to Actuarial science. I was intrigued when I explored further about the profession and the process of becoming an Actuary. I started writing exams while at university. I am grateful that I found the profession (or the other way around) and for the opportunities the profession has provided me along the way.

What led you to Actuarial modeling?
I thoroughly enjoy the process of creating and refining models and distilling the insights to help make better decisions. In my various roles, I have had the opportunity to create models from scratch and evaluate their validity. I aim to appreciate the big picture first and this helps me in understanding how an efficient model fits into the puzzle.

What’s your background in financial reporting?
Over the last 11 years, I have gained diverse financial reporting experience in life insurance and reinsurance industries. In my previous roles at a global reinsurer, I have driven a workstream for transition to IFRS17 and led valuation and reporting for business written across European markets. While working in direct insurance, I have worked in a range of areas including regulatory and statutory reporting, market consistent embedded value (MCEV) reporting, asset share and new business reporting, pricing model review and model validation.

Why did you join Valani Global?
The team at Valani Global is an ‘A’ team with strong AXIS, Actuarial skill sets and diverse experience. I would learn from the expertise of the team and am also excited to contribute to the team’s success.

Why should clients hire Valani Global?
The consultants at Valani Global are professional, knowledgeable, trustworthy, and work extremely hard to meet the client’s needs. They ensure the end-product delivered to the client is of high quality.

What skillset do you bring to the Valani team?
I have worked for various geographies, which gives me a diverse experience and adaptability to different working styles. My previous roles involved working closely with C-suite executives and teams outside of actuarial. This has given me insights into the thought process of different stakeholders across the value chain. My experience gives me the ability to zoom-in and zoom-out on the problem at hand and implement efficient solutions.

How are you involved in the actuarial community?
I am a member of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, UK. I mentor students for examination success. I have conducted workshops to help students understand exam techniques and have graded mock examination papers. 🟦
