Building an efficient model is a lot of work that requires knowledge and creativity, but the end result is extremely rewarding for me.

How did you begin your journey into actuarial science?
Growing up in an immigrant family, my parents always wanted me to find a career where I could be formally certified. They suggested that I become a pharmacist, and that became the goal I worked towards in my high school years. In my last year in high school, however, I realized that I didn’t enjoy chemistry enough to pursue that as my career. I did a career aptitude test with a blank slate – and the top result was “Actuary”. After some research, I found out that it involved math and problem solving, which I loved. It was also a bonus that I could become a certified actuary.

What led you to Actuarial modeling?
I’ve always loved creating processes and systems. When I first started to work with AXIS, it didn’t take long for me to realize how powerful the tool was and how much its performance depended on the way the model is built. Building an efficient model is a lot of work that requires knowledge and creativity, but the end result is extremely rewarding for me.

What’s your background in AXIS?
I’ve worked with AXIS my entire career. I’ve seen many of its different uses through my roles in pricing, valuation, and inforce management. My responsibilities in these roles included enhancing existing models to converting old models to AXIS.

Why did you join Valani Global?
Valani Global has an amazing group of people who are well known in the industry as the best at what they do. I was excited to be given an opportunity to contribute to the reputation the team has built.

Why should clients hire Valani Global?
Not only are we a group of experts, but we are a team that’s ever-evolving to provide the best for our clients. We dedicate a great deal of our time constantly developing and growing our strengths. We are always learning and sharing new findings with the rest of the team. We bring a large variety of experiences and skills to the table, and we work together so that our clients can get the best solution for their needs.

What skillsets do you bring to the Valani team?
Over the course of my career, I’ve seen many different models. I’ve seen different ways to use AXIS and witnessed what works and what doesn’t work so well. I’m also a fast learner and work hard to understand the big picture. With this strong framework and a variety of experiences, I believe I can help clients meet their solutions quickly and efficiently.

How are you involved in the actuarial community?
I volunteer as an exam grader with the Society of Actuaries and hope to become more involved in other areas to help mentor students and improve our industry. 🟦
